The results of the Civil Services Examination have been declared by the Union Public Service Commission. 1009 students have made it to the final list, highlighting the intense competition in the exams. Among those who performed well is Akash Garg, a resident of Delhi, who secured All India Rank (AIR) 5. His journey shows us the power of his dedication, political preparation, and experience.
Background
He was born in New Delhi and belongs to a middle-class family and grew up in a cooperative environment. He completed his schooling in Delhi with high grades and completed his B.Tech in Computer Science from Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology in 2022. His optional subject was Sociology, he had a Masters in Humanities.
UPSC Journey
Akash's UPSC journey was one of perseverance and rapid growth. His first attempt was in 2023 and he gained valuable experience from it. His second attempt in 2024 was excellent for him, securing AIR 5, a testament to his learning and understanding. Not considering Delhi as his home state and prioritizing IAS was the key to Akash securing AIR 5 in his second attempt. Akash learned a lot from his first attempt itself due to which he did not face much difficulty in his second attempt and he cleared his second attempt.

Prelims Strategy
Instead of looking at Prelims and Mains from different perspectives, He looked at them from the same perspective and prepared by looking at them from the same viewpoint.
He avoided reading or memorizing things again and again as this would lead to forgetting what he had memorized. He showed interest in understanding it in just one go.
He used to take a lot of mock tests because it is better to remember things through tests rather than rote learning.

Mains Strategy: The Art of Answer Writing
Instead of general statements, he adopted value integration approaches to clarify the answers and started practicing case studies and worked on maintaining a good list of examples, critical values and ideas.
He used to prepare his notes in such a way that only he could understand them clearly and his pattern was like that of the exam, as if he was giving the exam instead of making notes.
He had refined his answering process and used to write each and every statement of his answer very carefully and also practiced a lot regarding timing.

Interview Preparation
He used to focus more on DAF based questions and used to give a lot of mock interviews for complex situations.
His behavior in the interview was to maintain a calm and confident demeanor and if he did not know something, he would say that he did not know, which shows his calmness.
UPSC Marksheet (CSE 2024)
In writeen mains he got 831 marks.
He got interview personality test 201 marks.
He got total 1032 marks.
