Basic Mathematics – 3000+ Questions
A Book for Students Who Need More Practice
I wrote Basic Mathematics – 3000+ Questions for students who know some Mathematics but still face problems when they have to solve questions on their own.
While teaching, I noticed that many students do not necessarily have a problem with understanding a concept. Their bigger problem is that they do not practice regularly.
They solve a few questions, get stuck somewhere, lose interest, and then leave the book.
That is one of the main reasons I wanted to create a book with a large number of questions. I wanted students to have enough practice material so that they could sit every day and keep solving.
This Book Is Not Only About Mathematics
For me, this book is not just a collection of 3000+ questions.
It is also about developing a study habit.
A student has to learn how to sit for a fixed amount of time, complete a task, check the answers, find mistakes and come back the next day to do it again.
These habits are useful not only for Mathematics but for studies in general.
Consistency does not come in one day. It develops through regular practice.
For Students Preparing for UPSC, and Other Government Exams
If you are a new aspirant and are planning to start preparing for UPSC, NEET or another competitive examination, you can use this book before starting your full preparation.
You may find many questions in this book easy. That"s okay.
The purpose is not to make every question difficult.
The purpose is to make you sit & complete your daily target.
When you R preparing for a competitive examination there will be days when you understand everything and days when you get stuck on something.
At that point, it is easy to leave the study table and pick up the phone or find some other reason to stop studying.
Regular practice helps you develop the habit of staying with the task.
That is why I believe this book can be useful as a practice and discipline-building book, especially for students who are trying to develop a regular study routine.
For Parents Who Don't Have Enough Time
Many parents are working and do not always have enough time to sit with their children and teach them every day.
For children from Classes 1 to 8, parents can use this book to give them a simple daily task.
For example:
"Complete these questions today. I will check them when I come back in the evening."
The parent can then check the work and give marks.
This gives the child a clear responsibility and also gives the parent something simple to check.
The parent does not have to spend the whole day teaching. The child gets regular practice, and the parent can keep an eye on the progress.
For Tuition Teachers
I also think this book can be useful for tuition teachers.
Teachers often spend a lot of time writing questions on the board or preparing questions for students.
With this book, a teacher can simply say:
"Do questions 1–20 for tomorrow."
The teacher can check the work, give marks and see where the student is making mistakes.
It can also help teachers give different amounts of practice to different students according to their level.
The classroom time can then be used more for explaining concepts and solving students' doubts, instead of spending too much time writing questions.
One Simple Idea Behind the Book
I don't believe that every student needs to start with very difficult Mathematics.
Sometimes a student simply needs to practice regularly.
Start with easier questions.
Then gradually improve.
Make a target.
Sit down.
Solve the questions.
Check your mistakes.
Come back tomorrow.
And repeat.
That is the habit I want this book to encourage.
3000+ Questions — More Practice, More Consistency, Better Study Habits
Basic Mathematics is for students who want to strengthen their basics, practice regularly and develop the habit of completing their study work.
Start with one question. Then another. Keep going.
