· On August 2, 2021, it was introduced in the Rajya Sabha. It was passed by the Rajya Sabha on August 5, 2021, and it was passed by the Lok Sabha on August 9, 2021.
- The Bill amends the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950. The President has the authority under the Constitution to designate Scheduled Tribes (STs) in various states and union territories.
- It also allows Parliament to change the list of notified STs. According to the Bill’s Statement of Objects and Reasons, it was introduced to give effect to changes recommended by the state of Arunachal Pradesh.
- The Bill removes the Abor tribe from the list of identified STs in Arunachal Pradesh.
Further, it replaces certain STs with other tribes (see Table 1).
